{"id":68,"date":"2020-05-10T23:32:48","date_gmt":"2020-05-10T23:32:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mscvprojects.ri.cmu.edu\/2020teami\/?p=68"},"modified":"2020-12-16T22:39:55","modified_gmt":"2020-12-16T22:39:55","slug":"project-overview","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mscvprojects.ri.cmu.edu\/2020teami\/2020\/05\/10\/project-overview\/","title":{"rendered":"Project Overview"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Facebook Reality Labs have been working on a system called  <a href=\"https:\/\/arxiv.org\/abs\/1808.00362\">codec avatars<\/a>  in the past few years towards the goal of photorealistic telepresence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Facebook VR Research: Photorealistic Face Tracked Avatars\" width=\"1170\" height=\"658\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/86-tHA8F-zU?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Briefly speaking,  the VR system jointly encodes and decodes geometry and view-dependent appearance into a latent code from data captured from a multi-camera rig. The training of this system is fulfilled by minimizing the difference between the rendering and real image pixels. Deep learning is famous for being data-hungry. Different cameras can have different properties such as lens type, focal length, aperture, and sensor temperature. The purpose of this project is to develop a technique to calibrate the color response of all the cameras at possibly arbitrary time with minimal manual effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, doing camera correction for such a huge system is non-trivial.
